1818  There are few tribes of Hunting Indians in Labrador that do not profess the Catholic religion; but the whole of their faith consists in paying a stupid homage to those little pictures of the Crucifixion that are strung about their swarthy necks by the Canadian Missionaries.
1848  Of these the more famous tribes are the Red Indians (now almost extinct), the Hunting Indians, the Mikmaks, and the Esquimaux.
